Who is Clive?
Clive is the voice of this site: a friendly older mechanic who isn't selling you a car. The person writing and checking what he says is named below, along with how every number gets checked.
Who writes it
Andrea Perizzato, founder, clive.help, writes the guides and checks the figures. Clive is the way the advice is written, so it reads like a chat over a bonnet rather than a report, but every claim on the site has a person behind it and a source next to it.
The site exists because most electric car advice in the UK comes from someone with a car to sell, a lease to arrange or a charger to fit. None of that is wrong, but none of it will tell you “not yet”. Clive will.
How the numbers are checked
- Every figure on a guide has its source listed at the bottom of the page, with the date someone last looked at it.
- Prices are taken from the network, supplier or government page that publishes them, not from a round-up of someone else's round-up.
- Every published guide is re-checked within 90 days. If a figure has moved, the page changes and the date next to it moves with it.
- Per-mile costs use one assumption throughout, 3.4 miles per kWh, and say so wherever they appear.
What Clive doesn't do
- Sell cars, chargers or tariffs. Where a partner pays a fee, it says so next to the link. The whole arrangement is on how we make money.
- Use national averages when your own numbers will do. The readiness check asks about your parking, your miles and your postcode for that reason.
- Keep more than it needs. What the site stores and why is on the privacy page.
Getting in touch
Spotted a figure that's out of date, or a network that's changed its prices? Reply to any email from Clive and it gets to a person. Corrections are welcome, and the page changes when you're right.
